Layer-1 blockchainChia is the blockchain of Bram Cohen, creator of BitTorrent: instead of power-hungry GPU mining the network is secured by free hard-drive space (proof of space and time). "Farmers" seed disks with cryptographic plots, and the chance to sign a block is proportional to the space committed — at launch in 2021 this caused a genuine retail shortage of large drives. The project bets on enterprise use and regulator friendliness, and its Chialisp contract language is built around a coin model like Bitcoin's.
