Decentralised financeAcala was built as the financial hub of the Polkadot ecosystem: swaps, lending and its own aUSD stablecoin. In 2022 a bug in a new pool allowed over a billion excess aUSD to be minted — the community voted to destroy what had been created, a rare case of a network cancelling someone's balances to save a peg. What this shows: for young financial protocols the main risk is not the market but their own code and who gets to fix the consequences. The coin is down almost entirely from its January 2022 peak.
